Sample Illustrative Work
Barbara grew up in the country surrounded by family. Her imagination soared when her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles bought the remains of an abandoned one-room schoolhouse, including chalkboards, desks, and textbooks, and moved it all into a chicken coop void of chickens. The chicken coop became a place to play and pretend for Barbara, her cousins and imaginary students.
The chicken coop is where Barbara would bring her favorite books to read including books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and Louisa May Alcott as well Nancy Drew Mysteries.
Her curiosity of illustrating was stirred in that chicken coop but it wasn't until years later when her first child was a toddler that Barbara turned her curiosity into action. By combining pen and ink, colored pencils and markers, Barbara found her niche.
Spending an afternoon with author/illustrator Robert Quackenbush in his New York City Art Studio in 2013 only encouraged Barbara all the more.
