A Review of The Candle Giver from a Reader:
"You did it again Barbara!!! Yesterday Phil and I finished The Candle Giver. Wow!!!! As you recall, with the first two books, Phil and I have been taking turns reading the story to each other. But now I know, after the first two books, why I left Phil do all the reading with this one. If you recall with the first two, the lump in my throat made it impossible for me to read at times. And with this story, I have to say, even Phil, a few times, had to clear his throat.
Barbara, you have a way of using ‘words’ that capture the senses, making the reader not only ‘feel’ the emotions, but also to ‘visualize’ each scene.
Throughout The Candle Giver, it was nice how you tied in parts of the first two books. The ending of a story is like the ending of a movie where you wait for the grand finale. You did it with a simple centerpiece, using the highlights of all 3 stories and binding them together, through the eyes of a little girl.
The Candler Giver was heart-warming, captivating, tender, and magical. You already know how much we love Christmas – it’s the reason we were attracted to all 3 of your books to begin with. Anyone who loves Christmas will find all 3 of your stories a delight to read. We hope there will be more!
So, with a poinsettia still sitting on our coffee table, and with a balsam candle burning, sending a Christmas scent through the air, we just wanted to share with you how we spent our Valentine’s Day afternoon, and early evening, finishing up this wonderful story.
Thank you for capturing what Phil and I love about Christmas.
Have a great day,
Diane & Phil"
